1. Welcome to FHGC! Thank you for joining us. Tell me about yourself and what keeps you blooming in your purpose?
My name is Yodit Gebreyes and I’m the Owner of Favored by Yodit Events & Designs, a stylish special events firm based in the Washington, DC area. I believe my passion for making our client’s dreams become a reality is truly what keeps me blooming in my purpose. Serving clients all over the world, with the objective of designing stylish, seamless, multicultural weddings and events to showcase talents of people of color in the market and bring inclusion to a segregated industry also fuels me.
2. What does wellness mean to you in one word and how are you balancing wellness everyday?
Time. Wellness to me is giving myself the permission to take time to take care of myself and give myself space and freedom to be with myself and my family. I balance wellness by listening to my mind-body-spirit connection and to know when I need a time-out and not feel guilty for not participating and responding to all of the demands all of the time. Everyday I am striving for peace of mind and heart and for me that really means spending time feeling good and being present whether its spending time with my family, getting my nails done, getting a massage or just staying at home.
3. What’s an exciting accomplishment you have made so far on your wellness journey??
Getting over FOMO has been a huge accomplishment for me! The fear of missing out has been a looming joke between my husband and I for years, because he used to always tease me that I try to go to each event and please everyone because I don’t want to miss out on anything. Now I have realized it is okay to rsvp “No” on an event or don’t jump at every moment someone wants to hang out or do something that will take time away from me to do something more productive.
4. What do you wish you had known at a younger age, in regards to your health and wellness?
I wish I knew that forming good habits at a young age help you build a routine as an adult. If I could go back to my middle school and high school days I would have been more serious about sports and fitness like joining the dance team, track or a running club. I see a lot of my friends that are in good shape or love working out now have been doing it since they were teenagers so it comes natural to them and they actually enjoy it unlike me. Instead of being involved in organized sports or my fitness I was more focused on educational extracurricular activities so if I had a balance of both that would have been great as a young girl.
5. The FH lifestyle is about planting your health on higher ground. What is your biggest advice to someone who is on the path to flourishing heights?
I would advice someone to “trust the process”. I probably say it at least once day, and maybe more when things might not be going my way or happening slower than I would like since it applies to all things in life. The main thing to remember is that we’re all works in progress striving to be better, and happier than the day before. So it’s important to stay on course and have a chance to nourish our spirit with what brings us joy and makes us happy so we’re fueled to do what we want to do.
Thank you so much Yodit for joining us at FH GIRL CHAT! <3
